Clear advice when working relationships become difficult.

Speak with our team

Harringtons LLP advises on employment disputes and workplace processes. Whether the issue concerns a dismissal, a disciplinary allegation, discrimination or contractual rights, we help you understand the legal position and the practical options.

Dismissal and disciplinary proceedings

A workplace allegation can have serious consequences before any final decision is made. We review the contract, policies, allegations, correspondence and proposed process. Advice may concern responding to an investigation, preparing for a disciplinary hearing, considering an appeal or assessing a potential unfair-dismissal or contractual claim.

Equality, dignity and workplace rights

Employment issues may include discrimination, harassment, reasonable accommodation, wages, working time, leave or penalisation. Different claims have different legal tests and requirements. We focus on what happened, the evidence available, the applicable procedure and the remedy you are seeking.

Contracts, exits and settlement

We can review disputed contractual terms and proposed exit or settlement arrangements. Before signing, understand what payments and commitments are involved, which rights may be compromised and whether confidentiality, references or restrictions require particular attention. We explain the implications in the context of your circumstances.

WRC and court proceedings

The appropriate forum depends on the claim. We advise on preparation for Workplace Relations Commission proceedings and other relevant routes, including court claims where appropriate. Early assessment helps identify the correct parties, legal grounds, documents and witnesses. Many WRC complaints normally have a six-month time limit, with a possible extension in specified circumstances; other claims differ.

Prepare for your first consultation

Bring your contract, handbook, relevant policies, payslips and key correspondence. A short dated chronology is helpful. Tell us about any meeting, appeal or filing deadline. Where a workplace matter also involves a Garda investigation, Tusla assessment or threatened publicity, mention it at the outset so the advice can address the overlap.

PRACTICAL ANSWERS

Common questions

Should I wait until an internal process finishes before taking advice?

No. Early advice can help you understand the process and prepare your response. Do not assume that an internal grievance or appeal pauses an external legal deadline.

How long do I have to make a WRC complaint?

Many employment complaints must normally be brought within six months. Extensions may be available in limited circumstances, and some claims have different periods. Obtain advice about your own deadline promptly.

Are WRC hearings confidential?

Many adjudication hearings are public and decisions may identify the parties. Exceptions exist, but confidentiality should not be assumed. We can explain what may apply to your case.

Can you advise before I sign a settlement agreement?

Yes. Send the proposed agreement and any deadline so we can consider whether we can advise in time and explain the terms, implications and available options.
